Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins got their laps in early during today's one-day Barcelona MotoGP Test, before heavy rain struck the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. They finished 2nd and 13th respectively in the Session 1 timesheets.

Today's track action would have consisted of two sessions: Session 1 held from 10:00-13:00 and Session 2 from 13:20-18:00, but due to rain no riders went out in the afternoon.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP teammates used the dry track time in the morning to assess some items and set-ups and to tweak the electronics.

Quartararo set a best time of 1'38.831s, set on lap 12/30 that had him place 2nd in the Session 1 rankings, 0.064s from the top.

Rins posted a 1'39.762s on lap 31/32 that put him in 13th position in the Session 1 results, 0.995s from first.

The team will now enjoy a one-week break before they travel to the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello for the Brembo Grand Prix of Italy, held 29-31 May.

"We didn't have many things to test here, which was a good thing in the end because we were unlucky with the weather. Especially Fabio had some good feelings on the bike today and was able to test new parts related to the aero. We had planned to go over a few more things, but then the rain came. We need to check today's data and see if they match the riders' feedback and our predictions. Of course, today's track conditions are very different to yesterday's – with wind and cooler temperatures – and the grip level is much higher, so it's not easy to compare the data. But I think we are leaving Barcelona with some positive impressions. We are starting to get to know the bike step by step: it really is a 'season of learning' for us."

"We tested the front wing – one similar to the one I used yesterday in the race, which gives a bit more front feeling – as well as some settings and electronics, and that was about it. We are trying to improve our feeling with the bike and improve the consistency. Today the track had a lot of grip, and you can tell the difference. The test ended early. There are always more things you would like to test, but today we got done what we needed to do."

"It was a short day, but I did get 32 laps in. It was not very busy for us. We did some laps and we tested something on the chassis, which was not bad. I also focused a bit on the fairing that Fabio is using, which I also used in Jerez, and I liked it there. When I put on the evolution of this fairing here, I had only done one lap when the rain started, so I can't give conclusive feedback."
