Valuable Data Gathered by Yamaha Factory Racing Team as Augusto Fernández Battles Throughout Catalunya Sprint
The Yamaha Factory Racing Team continued their testing programme at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya today. Wild-card entry Augusto Fernández had said his goal was to battle with rivals in the 12-lap Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalunya Sprint, and he did just that. He ultimately took the chequered flag in P18.

The Yamaha Factory Racing Team had planned to use the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalunya Saturday to collect further race-weekend settings data. Augusto Fernández got the job done by engaging in battle in the 12-lap Sprint, ending it in P18.

Fernández had qualified in P21 and avoided a crash in the opening stages of the race to complete the first lap in 19th place. The Yamaha test rider spent the majority of the Sprint battling with other riders for 17th position. It was exactly the situation the number-47 rider had hoped for: to be able to gather data in race conditions. Missing out just before the chequered flag, he ultimately finished in P18, 20.558s from the winner.

The Yamaha Factory Racing Team will be back in action tomorrow for Warm Up, held from 09:40-09:50 (GMT+2), and the 24-lap Race, which starts at 14:00.

"I'm happy with my Sprint race. I managed to be with another Yamaha, which was my personal main goal. It was not easy, but I improved my lap times a bit in terms of pace compared to this morning. Like I said, since yesterday we are not trying any more new items, I'm just working on personalising the set-up a bit to suit my riding, and I am improving and gaining confidence. I was riding with Toprak all race, and Rins and Miller were not far ahead either. I'm feeling a little bit more competitive which is nice. Let's see if I can have a bit better pace in the Race tomorrow and battle with other riders again. We need to stay focused, stay positive, and keep working."
