Yellow flags — the nightmare of every rider chasing a fast lap — were anything but kind to Tony Arbolino today. During the crucial 15 minutes of Q2, the BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2 rider had what would have been his best lap deleted and was then forced to roll off the throttle due to further yellow flag incidents. What could have been a well-earned third-row start turned into an 11th-place grid position for tomorrow’s race (scheduled for 12:15 PM local time).
It’s a shame, as starting from the front rows might have allowed Arbolino to adopt a more measured race strategy. Instead, he’ll need to be aggressive from the outset to make up positions quickly, bearing in mind the tire consumption. Still, his consistent race pace throughout the weekend confirms his competitiveness. On a track where he’s already tasted victory in the past, Arbolino continues to look increasingly comfortable aboard his Boscoscuro bike.
It was also a tough qualifying for Izan Guevara, who, like his teammate, advanced directly to Q2. The Spanish rider finished with the 15th best time, struggling with front-end confidence on his bike. However, like Arbolino, Guevara has shown stronger race pace than his starting position would suggest, offering some optimism for Sunday’s race.
French GP Moto2 Schedule Sunday: 12:15 Race (22 laps – 92.07 km)
