Step by step, moving towards greater competitiveness. At the end of their best Friday of the season, the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team can be satisfied not only with Miller’s third-fastest time — the Australian was immediately fast and comfortable through Silverstone’s sweeping curves and rapid direction changes, confirming his excellent form — but also with the progress shown by Miguel Oliveira. In only his second race weekend since the injury that sidelined him for three GPs, Oliveira closed the session in a solid 13th, missing the top ten — and direct Q2 access — by less than two tenths.

This double result, combined with the strong performances of Factory Yamaha riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins (2nd and 9th respectively), confirms the YZR-M1’s continued progress. Since the post-race test in Jerez, the Yamaha has consistently shown growing competitiveness, thanks to the work led by Project Leader Kazuhiro Masuda and Technical Director Massimo Bartolini.

Miller showed strong pace right from the morning free practice session, which he finished in fifth. Not even a small crash at the end of his third lap in the afternoon Practice session distracted him — despite riding his second bike without the new chassis, he continued to demonstrate smooth riding on a track where agility, corner entry, and mid-corner speed are crucial. The engineers’ work on electronics has improved the M1’s performance in this phase, allowing better use of the rear tyre during corner entry and improved traction through and out of the turns. Thanks to the great work of the garage crew, who quickly repaired the first bike, Miller returned to the track at the crucial moment for a fast lap to secure his Q2 spot. Riding alone, he confirmed his strong feeling with Silverstone, finishing third, just 0.347 from the fastest time and only 0.047 behind Quartararo’s M1.

Oliveira also impressed, making the most of the team’s strategy in the final minutes by using Miller’s slipstream to temporarily enter the top ten. Though ultimately bumped down to 13th in the final minutes by other riders, he missed Q2 by only 178 thousandths, confirming clear progress.
