Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins used the opening day of the Grand Prix of Hungary to get a feel for the – for the MotoGP paddock – still relatively new Balaton Park Circuit. The teammates ended the afternoon in 11th and 21st position respectively, which put them on the entry list for Q1.

Quartararo had wrapped up FP1 in 11th place, and was aiming to secure a top-10 placement in the afternoon. The Frenchman gave it his all in the Practice time attack, but he missed out on a Q2-spot by 0.111s. His 1'37.871s best attempt, set on lap 26/27, earned him 11th place, 1.044s from first.

Rins ended the morning free practice session in 20th place. He was working diligently to book progress in the afternoon but ultimately struggled to make strides. The Spaniard's fastest Practice time of 1'38.673s, clocked on lap 23/23, had him rank 21st in the classification, 1.846s from the top of the rankings.

The teammates will be back in action for FP2 held tomorrow from 10:10-10:40 (GMT+2). The qualifying sessions will follow from 10:50-11:30, and the 13-lap Sprint will start at 15:00.

"The feeling was not so great today. I made some mistakes on my hot laps, and we are working on the gearing. We're having some difficulties, but I still managed to get one lap that was more or less clean. I'm not feeling like I'm riding like I should. There are a lot of strong riders in Q1 tomorrow. I will try to do my best to do a great lap."

"It was another difficult day. Last year we also struggled a bit at this track, but we have to keep pushing, and the team is working a lot too. The main goals remain to improve the bike, find better traction, and be smoother."
