Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo didn't find the pace they were looking for at the 23-lap Gran Premio d’Italia. The teammates started the Race from 10th and 15th place respectively and took the chequered flag in 15th and 18th position.
Scarperia (Italy), 2nd June 2024
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins and Fabio Quartararo gave it their all at the Autodromo del Mugello today in the Gran Premio d’Italia, but to little avail. Starting from 10th and 15th place respectively, they crossed the finish line in 15th and 18th place.

Rins had a good start from P10 on the grid and crossed the start-finish straight for the first time in twelfth place. He was keen to get a move on but was unable to fend off Raul Fernandez, Miguel Oliveira, and Marco Bezzecchi over the first 15 laps. The last 8 laps were a rather lonely ride for the Yamaha man. Posting steady lap times of mid-1'47s, he took the chequered flag in 15th place, 23.613s from first.

Quartararo started the Italian GP from P15 and kept it initially but lost a position halfway the opening lap. He overtook Jack Miller on lap 5 and gained a place in the points again until Bezzecchi passed him three laps later. Unable to stay with his Italian rival, El Diablo came under threat from two late charging riders, one of them a resurging Miller. The number-20 rider tried to make his M1 as wide as possible but ultimately had to concede. He finished the Race in 18th position, 30.622s from the winner.

Today's results see Quartararo in joint 12th place in the overall standings with 32 points. Rins is now in joint 20th position with 8 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP keep their 9th place in the team championship with 40 points, and Yamaha hold onto 4th position in the constructor’s championship with 36 points.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be back in action at the Mugello circuit tomorrow for a one-day IRTA Test.

We knew that today's Race was going to be hard. Like yesterday, our results were hampered by the qualifying positions as well as a lack of grip. The Race being longer than the Sprint also amplified the problem we already experienced yesterday. At the end of the Race, our riders’ endurance was tested because the bike is physically very demanding. The fact that we have an official test day here tomorrow is good for us. It gives us the opportunity to go through today's data and do some extra testing so we can learn from this weekend. We also have new parts to evaluate as developing the bike is still our top priority.

This was for sure not the Race that I wanted. I fought really hard to finish in 15th position. I was struggling all race, from the beginning. I did improve at the start compared to yesterday: this time I lost two positions. Then, lap by lap, I tried to be there. I tried to manage the bike, I tried to manage my physical condition, because at the moment riding our bike is quite hard. But these races are more like tests for us. It's a unique moment when we can compete with other riders, our rivals, and take information away from that.

It was basically a very tough race, especially on the physical side. I had an issue with my arm, I could not really ride well on the last ten laps. It's not arm pump, it's just that my arm is on the limit when we're riding at this type of track. It's unfortunate that we couldn't be fast. We had expected more from this Race. We struggle when the grip is low. Hopefully we can find a solution to make the bike easier to ride. We have some things planned for tomorrow's test to combat one of our weaker points. If it helps here, I think, it will also help with the physicality of riding.
