Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Full of Motivation Ahead of Mugello Race Weekend

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team are gearing up for the triple header before the summer break, starting with the Gran Premio d’ Italia. This round holds special significance, as it's the team’s and Franco Morbidelli’s home GP.
Scarperia (Italy), 7th June 2023
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team have travelled to the Autodromo del Mugello for Round 6 of the 2023 MotoGP World Championship. It’s a race weekend that the Factory Yamaha camp always look forward to, as they consider the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley their home GP.

Quartararo has great memories of racing at the Mugello circuit. His brilliant win at the Italian GP in 2021 and his strong second place in 2022 boost his confidence for this weekend. During the Le Mans weekend, the Frenchman also found a setting he likes, which he is keen to try again, hoping that it can help him climb up from ninth place in the overall rankings.

Morbidelli is excited to ride at the beautiful Mugello circuit. The Italian GP counts as one of his home rounds, and the local hero is especially keen to meet his fans at the ‘MotoGP On Stage’ event in Milan (Arco Della Pace, Piazza Sempione) which will be held today from 6pm-7:30pm. Morbido has yet to visit the podium in the flowing hills of Tuscany, though he came close in 2017 when he finished fourth in the Moto2 class. This weekend, he aims to score solid points again and move up in the championship standings from his current 13th place.

Mugello is considered one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar, thanks to its mixture of uphill and downhill sections and a variety of fast and slow turns. The 5245-metre-long Tuscan circuit hosted its first MotoGP event back in 1976 and became a permanent fixture in 1991. The Italian GP is famous for its great atmosphere and is said to be a ‘must-be-at event’ for motorcycle fans.

Those who wish to refresh their memory of this track can watch this week’s special MotoGP eSport video in which Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team Director Massimo Meregalli advises Lorenzo Daretti (aka Trastevere73) on riding techniques in Mugello.

The Italian GP is very special to our team and also to the riders. Not only is this track incredible, both beautiful to look at and exciting to ride, but we also consider it our team’s and Franky's home soil. We hope to see many fans here this weekend, and the whole team is determined to put on the best show possible. It will not be easy, but our past results here were good. We will do our utmost to keep the trend going.

We start the Mugello weekend determined to work hard. It’s the first race weekend of the triple header, so these will be busy weeks for us. In Le Mans, we decided on a setting that always seems to work best for us. So, we will start with that on the Friday and try to go as fast as possible in every session. I feel that starting more towards the front will be key, so that’s my goal for Friday and Saturday morning. And then on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday I will do my best as always.

We are continuing our work this weekend. Mugello is a beautiful track, and it’s very fast. Our top speed has improved compared to last year, which comes in handy at a track like Mugello with its long straights and hills. It’s my home GP and also for the team, so we will put in the work in every session.
