The Yamaha Factory Racing Team went full steam ahead with their testing programme in today's Grand Prix of Aragon MotoGP Race. The goal was to gather data on prototype items over a full race distance. Wild-card entry Augusto Fernández joined the 23-lap contest ready to battle and finished 13th, collecting 3 championship points.
Augusto Fernández started from P18 but lost a position in the usual tussle of the opening stages. He then battled with Enea Bastianini. Together they overtook Miguel Oliveira and closed in on Marco Bezzecchi and Álex Rins. The four riders were competing for P15. While Bezzecchi and Bastianini soon found a way through on Rins, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider put up a fight when it was the number-7 rider's turn. While the two were battling it out, a chasing Miguel Oliveira joined in. Augusto Fernández fended Oliveira off but gradually lost touch with Rins. However, various crashes from rivals had the test rider still move up the rankings to 15th place. It motivated him to push extra hard. In the final seven laps, the Spaniard started to close the over 1s gap to Jack Miller ahead of him. When Viñales crashed 3 laps later, the battle for P13 between the two Yamaha riders commenced. On the penultimate lap, Augusto Fernández made a move and took over 13th place, which he held across the finish line, 25.986s from first.
Today's results keep Augusto Fernández in 22nd in the championship standings with 6 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are 6th in the team championship with 90 points, and Yamaha is in 5th position in the constructor championship with 89 points.
Augusto Fernández and the Yamaha Factory Racing Team will be back in action at the private Barcelona Test this upcoming Wednesday and Thursday.
