Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins put up a good fight at the Grand Prix of Aragon today, completing the 23-lap contest in P11. Fabio Quartararo showed decent pace at the start again and was riding in 10th place when a crash ended his challenge for points.
Alcañiz (Spain), 8th June 2025
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Álex Rins showed his fighting spirit at the MotorLand Aragón today, riding a strong second half of the 23-lap contest, finishing 11th. The Grand Prix of Aragon Sunday was a day to forget for Fabio Quartararo. A crash on lap 13 ended his chances to fight for championship points.

Rins started from P15 and made up a position on the opening lap. He then battled with Raul Fernandez and was pushed back to 15th, in a busy part of the mid-pack. He had to ride defensively as Marco Bezzecchi, Enea Bastianini, and Augusto Fernández were chasing him down. A battle ensued, and on lap 5 Rins found himself in P18, but he fought back and reclaimed 17th position. Crashes by rivals over the next few laps moved the Spaniard up to 14th. Meanwhile, like during yesterday's Sprint, Rins became stronger as the race went on. He closed in on Jack Miller and overtook him on lap 17. Enea Bastianini was next just one lap later, putting Rins in 12th place. He followed it up with multiple fast laps, showing good pace. A crash by Maverick Viñales with 4 laps to go moved Rins up to 11th during his final push to the finish line. He had managed to close an over 2.5s gap to Raul Fernandez in 10th but came just short. He took the chequered flag in 11th, 19.646s from first.

Quartararo started from P9. He settled into eighth after the opening corners but then lost a position to Fabio Di Giannantonio and wrapped up the first lap in ninth. The Frenchman managed to keep charging riders at bay in the early stages, until Joan Mir and Viñales got past on lap 8 and 9, relegating him to P11. Quartararo was riding a relatively lonely race when in lap 12 Brad Binder crashed out and the number-20 rider was briefly back in the top 10. But soon after, he suffered a luckless crash himself, ending his race prematurely.

Today's results keep Quartararo in 10th place in the overall standings with 59 points. Rins is now in joint-16th position with 31 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are 6th in the team championship with 90 points, and Yamaha is in 5th position in the constructor championship with 89 points.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be back in action at the MotorLand Aragón tomorrow for a one-day IRTA Test.

"It was a difficult race, especially in the opening laps, and we need to identify what is preventing Álex from being as fast in the first half of the race as he is in the second half. In the final 11-12 laps, he was able to match the lap times of the front guys. Fabio was unlucky to crash out of a top-10 position due to similar issues as he had yesterday. Luckily, he was not injured. He is perfectly fine and able to take part in the upcoming IRTA test in Aragon. Tomorrow we will evaluate new components, and we will also investigate the issues we encountered today. Overall, it's been a tough weekend, but there are silver linings: our fastest lap times in today's race are much closer to the front guys than last year, and the gap to first has also reduced considerably."

"I was struggling in the first 10-12 laps, but from 12 laps onwards I was suddenly able to do low to medium 1'47s. I was riding super fast in the last part of the race. We need to fix this and find something that allows me to be faster in the opening stages. We need to work on it. We have some items that we can test tomorrow that Augusto tested today, which will be important."

"I had the same problem as yesterday. The grip was improving lap by lap because of the rubber on track, but when I pushed just a little bit more, I lost the front. We have to understand why this happened. Tomorrow we are testing here. Today we saw that we still have to improve, but I think that in Mugello and Assen we can be much faster."
