Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins successfully started their campaign at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit today. They used the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix FP1 session to prepare for the afternoon's one-hour Practice, which, as per usual, ended in an intense shoot-out. The Yamaha teammates showed good potential in the time attack and secured 4th and 6th place respectively in the Practice classifications.
Phillip Island (Australia), 17th October 2025
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins went all out in the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix afternoon session to set a good time. The teammates ended the Practice in 4th and 6th place respectively in the timesheets. This puts both riders on the entry list for tomorrow's Q2 session.

Quartararo had finished FP1 in P5 and was keen to start off the afternoon Practice on the right foot as well. The Frenchman used the next 45 minutes to make setting tweaks and put them to the test in the final 15 minutes. Already consistently featuring inside the top 10 during the session, he posted a 1'26.926s on lap 21/26 that briefly had him in 2nd place. However, in the end he was pushed down two positions and ultimately ranked fourth in the Practice timesheets, 0.434s from the top.

Rins had finished the morning session in P17, but he made a big step in the afternoon. The Spaniard got to work in the Practice and held provisional second place by the mid-way stage. He continued to make progress in the time attack. His 1'27.006s, set on lap 18/23, secured him third place at the time. At the end of the time attack action, his best effort was fast enough for him to still hold 6th place in the Practice results, 0.514s off today's fastest time.

The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team will be back in action tomorrow for the Saturday MotoGP sessions: FP2 will be held from 10:10-10:40 GMT+11, followed by the qualifying sessions from 10:50-11:30, and the 13-lap Sprint, which starts at 15:00.

"Overall, it's been a strong Friday for us, with both riders comfortably posting times that earned them a spot in Q2. While this was our initial goal, the way we've started the weekend has exceeded our expectations. We anticipated some challenges due to the typically lower grip levels at this circuit compared to Mandalika, but, so far, both riders are feeling confident and able to push. The team is highly motivated to carry this momentum into Saturday. That said, we're well aware that Phillip Island's unpredictable weather can change things quickly, so we'll stay sharp and adaptable to make the most of this double Q2 entry."

"The pace was not so bad! I'm quite happy with how the day went. Overall, I feel confident with the bike. This is a track where I've never been fast, but this year it looks like I feel a bit better. Fast and flowing corners suit our bike. Now we have to make a few adjustments and keep working to gain some extra tenths on the pace."

"This track is always special. The bike wasn't perfect in FP1 yet, and though my last lap was a good one, we were still far from first, so I was a bit worried. But in the Practice I felt really good on the bike, even on used tyres, and I was able to confirm a different setting. In the time attack I was trying to push to the maximum, and it was good. I set a proper lap, and I'm quite happy because going straight into Q2 is a big thing."
