The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team are anticipating a fierce Autodromo del Mugello race weekend. They will be pushing to the limit to make waves at their home GP.
Scarperia (Italy), 25th May 2022
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team are making their way to the Autodromo del Mugello circuit. It’s a race weekend that the Factory Yamaha camp always look forward to with high anticipation as they consider the Gran Premio d'Italia Oakley their home GP.

Much like last year, Fabio Quartararo arrives at the Mugello track leading the championship standings. Last year’s brilliant win at the Italian GP was a confidence boost for the Frenchman. He is hoping for another visit to the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello podium this time out as he aims to extend his current four-point advantage.

Franco Morbidelli is also looking forward to riding at the beautiful Mugello circuit, which is also a home race for him personally. The Italian has yet to visit the podium in the flowing hills of Tuscany, though he came close in 2017 when he finished fourth in the Moto2 class. This weekend, he aims to score solid points again and move up in the championship standings from his current 17th place.

Mugello is considered one of the most beautiful tracks on the calendar, thanks to its mixture of uphill and downhill sections and a variety of fast and slow turns. The 5245-metre-long Tuscan circuit hosted its first MotoGP event back in 1976 and became a permanent fixture in 1991. The Italian GP is famous for its great atmosphere and is said to be a ‘must-be-at event’ for motorcycle fans.

This weekend’s GP will be a special one for our team. Mugello is located in a beautiful Tuscan hillside and the track lay-out is also fantastic. It makes this round a joy for us, especially now the fans can finally attend the race here again for the first time since 2019. But there’s also a serious note to this race weekend. We expect it to be a tough one. We won here last year, and it was a hard-fought victory. We know from that experience where our advantage lies, and we will try to make the most of it again this weekend.

After a week off, we are racing at Mugello, which is a track I really like. Last year I won here, and that was a great race and a great feeling, especially because it was at my team’s home GP. This weekend, riding here will be even better because the fans will be there watching and enjoying the sessions. I’ll try to win again. As always I’m going to try and give it my 100%.

We have been working hard and step by step we are improving, but we need it to all come together. We will continue to work hard again this weekend. Mugello is a very special circuit. It’s fast to ride and beautiful to watch for the fans. It’s my home GP and also for the team, so I will be pushing to get a good result here.
