The Grand Prix of the United Kingdom Race became a bitter pill to swallow for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team. Álex Rins pushed to the limit and finished an eventful 19-lap Race restart in 14th place in the results. It was all looking rosy for Fabio Quartararo in the first half of the restart. He was comfortably in the lead and on course to win the British GP until a technical issue with the rear-height device on lap 12 denied him the honour.
Silverstone (United Kingdom), 25th May 2025
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team went through a rollercoaster of emotions today. Álex Rins handled the tension of the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom Race well, but it was still a tough outing for the Spaniard. He completed it in 14th position in the classifications. The 2025 British GP came to a heartbreaking end for teammate Fabio Quartararo. He was giving a masterclass at the Silverstone Circuit, riding far in the lead, when a technical issue ended his hopes for glory.

The original Race was red-flagged on lap 3 due to an oil spill on the track. As the 3-lap race distance had not been completed, all riders were eligible to restart in the original grid formation following a quick start procedure. This put Quartararo and Rins back in P1 and P12 on the grid for the reduced Race, now counting 19 laps.

In the original Race, Rins was in 17th place when the red flag came out. The restart offered a welcome do-over, and the number 42 rider made good use of it. He moved up to 9th in the opening corners before completing the lap in 10th. But on lap 3 he lost some places and regrouped in 15th position. He spent a large part of the Race battling in 15th and 16th place before a late charge moved him up to 13th. However, the sting was in the tail of the dash for points in Silverstone. Rins was scrapping all the way to the last corner and was delegated to 15th place across the finish line, 16.312s from first. He was later moved up to 14th in the classifications after Brad Binder received a one-position penalty for exceeding the track limit on the final lap.

Quartararo was leading the original Race when it was red-flagged but managed to do even better the second time round. Starting from pole again, El Diablo initially held second behind Bagnaia but soon fought back and took the lead. He completed the first lap with an over 1.2s gap to second, and the number-20 rider was clearing off. Quartararo was pushing like he was doing qualifying laps. However, at the midway stage a charging Marco Bezzecchi was closing in gradually. Quartararo responded well, and looked in control, but it wasn't to be. On lap 12, a technical issue cruelly denied him a win and ended his challenge prematurely. Nevertheless, he was voted 'Rider of the Race' by the MotoGP viewers, showing their appreciation of the skill and attitude with which the Frenchman had performed this afternoon.

Today's results see Quartararo in 8th place in the overall standings with 59 points. Rins is now in 17th position with 25 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are 6th in the team championship with 84 points, and Yamaha is in 5th position in the constructor championship with 84 points.

Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP will be back in action in two weeks' time for the Grand Prix of Aragon which will be held at the MotorLand Aragón track from 6-8 June.

"Today's race is a bitter pill to swallow… Starting with Fabio, our hearts broke for him. He did everything right today: he was leading the original race, managed to stay concentrated and do a great start in the restart, and he then went on to lead the race by a mile. He was attacking every lap as if it was a qualifying lap, and we can only say that we feel so sorry for him that this technical issue with the rear-height device denied him this victory. It's an unusual issue and very disappointing for Fabio, the team, Yamaha, and the fans. But Fabio leading the race the way he did shows that we are improving step by step and that we are contending for race wins again. It may seem like only a small silver lining, but it's a significant one in the long term as it shows we are on a turning point. Álex had a better start to the restart, but he couldn't push the way he wanted and fight with the riders in the mid-pack. All in all, this race didn't play out in our favour, but we will regroup and look forward to trying again in two weeks' time in Aragon."

"The first start was chaos for me. I lost many positions. Then, on the restart, I did a really good start. I stayed in my position and maybe even gained some. But then it was super difficult for me to warm the rear tyre. We need to understand why I have this issue but Fabio and Miller do not. From the middle to the end of the race, I'm able to ride the same lap times as they are, but I can't do it in the opening stages. I lost positions, and I also had a scary moment with Bagnaia. When he crashed, I almost hit him. That lost me positions again. But I'm feeling positive. Yamaha is working so hard. In my case, we just need to understand how to solve the problems I have in the first part of the races, but you can see that we made an improvement compared to last year. That's the thing that keeps me motivated."

"It was an amazing race for us, but unfortunately we had a technical issue with the rear-height device. I think this was 'our race'. Everything was good. I knew where to push, I knew where to exaggerate a bit more on braking considering the wind. Everything was under control until that lap. I think we can be happy with what we did today. The bike was the best it's been in a while, by far. I was riding very smoothly, and I felt we were going super fast. So, there will be more opportunities, hopefully. I feel that we have made a step. Not enough yet, but we are getting stronger and stronger. I have made a great race. I won't say it was the best of my career, but maybe of the last 3-4 years. Of course, I'm really disappointed, but I think we have to keep our head up."
