Fabio Quartararo was pushing in the final stages of the Practice time attack and secured 4th place in the timesheets and a spot in tomorrow's Q2. Álex Rins used the Friday sessions to get to know the YZR-M1 at the Sachsenring – a first for him. Though he booked progress, he wrapped up the day in 19th place and will join tomorrow's Q1 session.
Chemnitz (Germany), 11th July 2025
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP experienced a mixed opening to the Grand Prix of Germany weekend. Fabio Quartararo showed late-session speed in the afternoon Practice, securing 4th place and a direct spot in Q2. Álex Rins used the Friday to search for grip at the Sachsenring, where he has yet to race with a Yamaha. He made progress but ended in 19th position and will take part in Q1 tomorrow.
Overcast skies set the tone for an eventful Practice session, with several riders crashing and running into the gravel while pushing for top-10 positions.
Quartararo had done solid work in FP1, finishing it in eighth place. He used the Practice to further adapt his bike's set-up to the tricky and twisty Sachsenring. In the final 10 minutes, the time attacks came rolling in. The Frenchman responded and was in the mix for the top 10. He set a 1'19.524s lap on lap 28/30, with 3 minutes remaining, earning him second place at the time. However, El Diablo had pushed so hard that he ran wide on the next lap going into Turn 1. He was unable to set further hot laps, but his earlier effort was enough to keep him in fourth position, 0.453s from first.
It became clear for Rins in the 45 minutes of the morning session that he had some work to do here this weekend. He ended FP1 in 18th place and set out for the Practice session keen to shave off time. The track conditions remained dry, allowing him to continue work in the afternoon. Despite switching bikes for the time attack, he improved by 0.810s on his morning time when he posted a 1'20.668s on lap 21/23. However, it was only enough for a 19th place in the Practice rankings, 1.597s off the best time of the session.
The teammates will be back in action for FP2 held tomorrow from 10:10-10:40 (GMT+2). The qualifying sessions will follow from 10:50-11:30, and the 15-lap Sprint will start at 15:00.

"It was a really tough day. Starting from FP1, I was struggling with rear grip, so we started the afternoon Practice with a different setting, but the bike was the same though. I couldn't find grip. In the last minutes, we noticed a small issue, so I changed bikes. I was only able to do one time attack. We are starting with a fresh slate again tomorrow. Let's see how it goes, especially if it rains."
