The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team had higher hopes for today's 13-lap Grand Prix of San Marino Sprint. Álex Rins started from P18 and closed the contest in P17. Fabio Quartararo was riding in P4 when a sudden crash ended his run.
Misano Adriatico (Italy), 13th September 2025
The Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team approached today's 13-lap Grand Prix of San Marino Sprint with optimism for a competitive outing. Álex Rins dropped from P17 to 20th early on but recovered to 17th again after several rider incidents. Fabio Quartararo's hopes for Sprint points were dashed by a sudden crash in Turn 2.

Rins started from P18 and fell back to 20th in the opening corners, but he fought back and was quickly in 19th position. He briefly moved up to 18th when his teammate crashed out of the 13-lap challenge but was overtaken by Maverick Viñales shortly after. Marc Marquez's crash and Brad Binder's mechanical issue had the number-42 rider circulating in 17th while he shadowed Miguel Oliveira during the second half of the Sprint. Rins couldn't get quite close enough to put in an overtake, however, and finished in 17th place, 18.716s from first.

For the second time in a row, Quartararo battled his way through Q1 to land a front-row position. Lining up in third, the Frenchman was keen to make a good start. He slotted into fourth and skilfully defended his spot from chasing rivals on the opening lap. El Diablo managed to break away from the pursuing VR46 Racing teammates, but at the start of lap 5 an unlucky crash in Turn 2 ended his challenge for points prematurely. Perfectly okay, he is looking forward to a do-over tomorrow.

After today's results, Quartararo is now in 9th place in the overall standings with 129 points, and Rins holds 19th position with 45 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are 6th in the team championship with 174 points, and Yamaha remain in 5th position in the constructor championship with 160 points.

On the San Marino GP Sunday, the teammates will start the track action with the Warm Up held from 09:40-09:50 (GMT+2), followed by the 27-lap Race starting at 14:00.

"After a challenging Friday, Fabio delivered an impressive turnaround by securing his eighth front-row start of the season. His commitment in qualifying continues to be a cornerstone of our performance. However, during the Sprint, Fabio suddenly encountered a strong rear vibration that led to a crash in Turn 2 – a real shame because he had solid pace. We are currently investigating the cause to ensure we mitigate any risk of repeating the incident in tomorrow's Race. Álex faced a challenge we've observed previously this season – he could close the gap to rivals but struggled to overtake. The team will deep-dive into today's data to identify solutions that can support stronger race performances for tomorrow. We remain focused and optimistic as we prepare for Sunday, aiming to conclude the weekend with positive results."

"We were struggling with the soft – we can't find the extra grip on this tyre on the rear all the way around the track. We had similar problems as we had in other GPs. I couldn't brake any later, but Fabio is braking 20 metres later than the rest of the Yamahas, and that's where Fabio makes the difference. Starting from P17, the race gets very difficult, and we don't have a lot of chances to overtake. We need to keep working. I hope that tomorrow it will be easier with the medium rear tyre in terms of stability, because the soft was a bit unpredictable for us."

"We experienced a strange feeling on the rear. It's disappointing because I didn't crash because I was over-pushing but because of tyre vibration going into Turn 2. I lost the rear and then the front. I wanted to continue, but it became clear I couldn't. The Friday here was really tough, and I didn't expect that we would be able to turn it around during the quali, but we did. Qualifying in P3 was really good. I hope that tomorrow the tyre will work normally, and I can make a great race. I think our pace is good for a top 5."
