Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo was showing off his defensive riding skills on the Grand Prix of Czechia Saturday. He made his YZR-M1 as wide as possible as he rode to a solid fifth place. He is now up to joint-9th in the overall standings. Álex Rins was riding in the midst of the usual early Sprint chaos. Emerging from it unscathed, he went on to finish the Sprint in P18.
Brno (Czech Republic), 19th July 2025
Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo used his YZR-M1's potential to the fullest in the Grand Prix of Czechia to secure 5th place whilst surrounded by charging riders. Álex Rins faced some early setbacks in the 10-lap outing but pushed on to finish in 18th place.

Quartararo secured his sixth front-row start of the season today. Starting from P3, he defended well from Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta in the opening corner, holding on to his position on the first lap. But his rivals soon made a second attempt. While Acosta found a way through on lap 2, El Diablo held firm for as long as he could when it came to the others – even when there was contact between him and Bezzecchi. Enea Bastianini was the next rider to try to overtake El Diablo multiple times. He was finally successful at the end of lap 4. The Yamaha rider was not out for the count though: he chased Bastianini and soon after they passed Francesco Bagnaia together. With two laps to go, Bezzecchi once again put pressure on the number 20. This time he did manage to overtake the Frenchman. Though unable to enter into a battle for fourth, Quartararo went full speed ahead to take fifth place at the finish line, 2.292s from the winner.

Rins began from P15 and was fighting in the mid-pack on the opening lap until he ran wide together with Augusto Fernández and Joan Mir. After the small mishap, the Yamaha man found himself riding in 20th place. There were multiple riders battling as they all rode in tandem the first two laps. Rins overtook Takaaki Nakagami for 19th in Turn 3 of lap 2, thereby narrowly escaping a collision between Nakagami and Augusto Fernández, resulting in both riders being out of the 10-lap dash. Rins gained another place at the half-way stage when Fabio Di Giannantonio crashed on lap 5. The number 42 rode behind Alex Marquez for the rest of the Sprint, but he couldn't get quite close enough to make a move. He finished in 18th place, 9.871s from first.

After today's results, Quartararo is now in joint-9th place in the overall standings with 92 points, and Rins remains in 18th position with 41 points. Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP are 6th in the team championship with 133 points, and Yamaha is in 5th position in the constructor championship with 123 points.

On the Czech GP Sunday, the teammates will start the track action with the Warm Up held from 09:40-09:50 (GMT+2), followed by the 21-lap Race starting at 14:00.

"Today started well with Fabio securing P3 in qualifying – and he felt he could have done even better if it wasn't for external circumstances out of his control. It's his sixth front-row start of the season, and we are 12 GPs in, which is an encouraging 50% success rate. It was an interesting Sprint today. Because we had so little dry track time here so far with the new asphalt, all the riders and teams had to make their tyre decisions just based on this morning and the last minutes of FP1. Fabio did a great job at the start again. He was making sure to get the most out of our package today, whilst also riding defensively. He managed to keep it up for the entire 10 laps which earned him 5th place at the end. Álex lost some ground at the start of the Sprint and was not able to gain it back. We will use today's data to prepare for tomorrow. We expect a hard Race, but we are looking forward to giving it our all in this last showdown before the summer break."

"I was happy with my Sprint race. I had a lot of rivals around me, and I was able to compare our package with theirs today. I could hear the noise of Bezzecchi's bike, and I could also feel his tyre when he hit the rear of my bike. It was close for both of us. I was struggling a bit with grip with the medium during this Sprint, and he was riding on the soft rear. We will try to look at the data and tyre temperature of today to see where we can change some details for tomorrow. I'm going into the Race with an open mind."

"It was chaotic, because I got involved in an incident with Alex Marquez and Fermin Aldeguer. I was riding on the outside, and I had to pick up the bike, otherwise it would have been like playing dominoes. After that moment, I was almost last. But I was feeling good with the bike. My pace, riding alone, was not bad. I was doing some 1'54-mediums to 1'54-lows. I was trying to figure out where to overtake Alex Marquez. I think I had a better pace than him in this Sprint, and I tried a lot of things, but it was not possible to overtake him. So, we took information for tomorrow."
