Lorenzo Daretti (aka 73Trast or trastevere73) kept his fighting spirit up during a difficult but in the end rewarding third Global Series round of the 2021 MotoGP eSport season. Though the Italian was disappointed not to be able to give the performance he wanted in Race 5 (Phillip Island), he made a brilliant comeback in Race 6 (Misano) taking a superb win.
Gerno di Lesmo (Italy), 24th September 2021
During today’s two races, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP’s Lorenzo Daretti (aka 73Trast or trastevere73) proved his mental strength. When the first race of Round 3 of the Global Series (Race 5: Phillip Island) didn't go his way, he remained level-headed. He showed great maturity and speed at the second race (Race 6: Misano) and ended it with a flawless win.

Daretti really enjoys Phillip Island and had great race pace, but luck was not on his side in Race 5. Misfortune struck shortly after the lights went out. The Yamaha rider started from second but soon found himself in ninth place due to a race incident with AndrewZh on the opening lap in Turn 3. Trastevere73 kept pushing relentlessly, and in the end he had to settle for seventh place, 7.359s from first, but with a fastest lap of 1’24.248s.

The Italian was understandably disappointed with the Race 5 result but didn’t let it affect his Race 6 efforts. Misano is another track he likes, and also there he knew how to get the best out of his Yamaha. The pressure was on because Daretti couldn’t afford anymore mishaps if he wanted to hold on to the chance of becoming the 2021 World Champion. Starting from second on the grid, he again managed to take the holeshot. This time he stayed out of trouble in the ever tricky opening stages. He then kept a steady and fast pace and remained faultless, despite being stalked by adriaan_26 all race, to take a well-deserved win with a 0.668s advantage.

Trastevere73’s damage control in Race 5 and podium comeback in Race 6 brought his total up to 105 solid points. This keeps him in provisional second place in the overall rankings with a 7-point gap to first. It's all to play for in the fourth and final round, to be held on 12 November 2021, when double points will be awarded and a MotoGP eSport rider will be crowned 2021 World Champion.

Phillip Island was a really difficult race emotionally. I started very well, and I also had the right concentration to fight for the win. Contact in Turn 3 with AndrewZh ended this dream: I fell and resumed in ninth position. By having a great pace, I manage to overtake two riders and get very close to the group in front, but they were too far away. I ended the race in seventh position with the fastest lap of the race. It was a real disaster for the championship, but I know how to stay very strong this year and this is positive. The collision with AndrewZh was not my fault, and I hope that these type of actions will be sanctioned in the next races.

Misano was the most important race of the 2021 season, I think. After two crashes in this championship that were not my fault, I couldn't afford any other mishaps. The pressure was high, but it helped me to have great focus and concentration. I started very well, and I got the first position in the first corner. I pushed like 100% all the race but having adriaan_26 just half a second behind me was not easy. We pushed a lot, and nobody wanted to give up. At the end I finished the race in first position, bringing me back into the fight for the World Championship. I’m really happy because I won two times at home, Mugello and Misano, and this victory at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli means a lot to me. I always carry him with me.

Now we just have one more round to go, and the goal is to win the championship. I’m in second place in the overall standings, seven points behind adriaan_26, and we’ll be awarded double points at these last two races, so it’s still all to play for. We have to finish in front of adriaan_26 in both races. It will be difficult, but we can do it!
