Following the Grand Prix of Italy last Sunday, the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team travelled straight to TT Circuit Assen for this weekend's Grand Prix of the Netherlands, Round 10 on the 2025 MotoGP calendar.
TT Circuit Assen (the Netherlands), 25th June 2025
There's no rest for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team between the Italian GP and the Dutch GP. Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins headed straight to the TT Circuit Assen for Round 10 on the 2025 MotoGP calendar, held this weekend.
Quartararo enjoys the Assen track and has accumulated some great results in the Netherlands over the course of his racing career. In his Moto3 debut year (2015) he secured a second place there. He equalled the achievement in the Moto2 class in 2018 and followed it up with three MotoGP podiums: a third place in 2019, a win in 2021, and a third place in the 2023 Sprint. He is hoping to add another top result to his résumé this weekend and climb up from 10th place in the overall rankings.
The Dutch track is also beloved by Rins, who is no stranger to the Assen rostrum. He secured a third place in the Moto3 class in 2013, followed by a second place in the same class the year after. He narrowly missed out on a Moto2 podium on Dutch soil in 2015 but equalled his best classification at TT Circuit Assen on a MotoGP bike in 2018, capturing second place again. The Spaniard is currently in joint-17th position in the overall standings and is gunning for points in the coming weekend.
Assen has been part of the Motorcycle World Championship calendar every year since 1949 with the exception of 2020 due to the global pandemic. Initially the race was held on public roads before the TT track was built especially for the Dutch GP in 1955. The current track layout measures 4.5km and is often referred to as ‘The Cathedral’ of motorcycling as it is a favourite of riders and fans alike. The circuit features rapid changes in directions coupled with a nice mixture of high-speed and low-speed corners (six left and twelve right). Especially the Geert Timmer chicane, just before the start-finish straight, makes for great entertainment right in front of the main grandstand.
The Dutch GP will hold extra significance for the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team and Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team this year as Yamaha Motor is celebrating their 70th anniversary this weekend.
